Small groups are a simple and effective way to connect congregation members to one another and to the congregation as a whole beyond Sunday services. They are centered around Word, prayer, and people, and therefore connect saints back to the saving message of Jesus’ death and resurrection proclaimed each week as we gather around God's gifts as a community. They are also grounded in sharing everyday life and experiences with one another, and so God’s Word invariably becomes entwined with the day-to-day ‘stuff’ of life. They provide opportunities for fellow saints to help one another identify the ways God is at work in them and in the world and around them and to encourage one another in the living out of their faith day-to-day.
By the power of the Holy Spirit through the Word, it is our prayer that small groups at Concordia will:
- Consistently proclaim the Gospel in and through the daily circumstances of people’s lives;
- Help saints to identify, experience, and share Christ-centered life in the kingdom of God;
- Develop and enrich relationships amongst the believers at Concordia, living into the reality of the unity of the body of Christ in this place;
- Create opportunities where members can invite others to explore questions about God, faith, salvation, and being a part of a community of believers in a less intimidating, and more relational atmosphere than Sunday worship;
- Encourage the life and activities of the congregation to develop beyond existing activities connected to the staff and leadership;
- Glorify God as Creator, Redeemer, and Sanctifier through the hearing, doing, and proclamation of the Word.
